Xiamen Special Economic Zone , established in 1980, is one of the five s in the People's Republic of China. Originally comprising a territory of 2.5 km? in Xiamen City, it was expanded to 131 km? in 1984, covering the entire Xiamen Island, which comprises Huli District and Siming District excluding Gulangyu.
and Xinglin districts were designated "Taiwan Businessmen Investment Zones" on , 1989, and Jimei District was designated in 1992. Foreign investment enjoys the same economic policies as in the special economic zone.

Tong'an District
Tong'an District is a northern mainland of Xiamen which faces Jinmen. Tongan is located on the southeast of Fujian province. To the north is Anxi and Nanan, to the south is Jimei. Tong'an is also east of Lianxiang and Changqin to the West. It covers 657.59 km?
Tong'an District has a population of 520 000 residents.

Huli District is the centre for commerce, science, education, sports, tourism and culture.
Huli District’s GDP in 2002, was 3.561 billion yuan. The total economic value was 7.127 billion yuan. The Per capita net income of the residents was 8250 yuan. By 2002 year end, the total population of Huli District was 127 200. This made up of 44 400 households. The total population of urban residents is 101 900 which consist of 80.11% of total population. By the start of 2006, local residents were up to 440,000 including 320,000 from other places. This equal to 72.73% of entire population.

Han Kuo-Huang
Han Kuo-Huang is a Chinese-born American ethnomusicologist and musician.
Han was born in Xiamen, China and grew up in Taiwan. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Taiwan. In 1960 he assisted Elizabeth Hovhaness, the wife of the American composer Alan Hovhaness, in obtaining recordings of Chinese and Taiwainese music during her trip to Taiwan, and in 1962 served as translator for composer Lou Harrison.
Han eventually relocated to the United States, eventually obtaining U.S. citizenship. He received both his M.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Northwestern University and served as professor of music for over 30 years at Northern Illinois University in , Illinois, retiring in 2003. He is now a professor of music at the University of Kentucky in , Kentucky.
He specializes in as well as gamelan and directs these ensembles, formerly in the Asian Ensemble of Northern Illinois University and now at the University of Kentucky. His Chinese music ensemble from Northern Illinois University, formed in the late 1970s, was the first such ensemble at a North American university, and toured the United States and East Asia.
Han has a particular interest in the subject of music education, with an emphasis on the teaching of Asian musics. He has published widely in both Chinese and English, with twelve books and numerous articles appearing in journals and music reference works, and textbooks.
Han lives in Lexington, Kentucky.

Haicang is the mainland district of Xiamen city, Fujian Province, the People's Republic of China.

Haicang Investment Zone is located on the northern side of the of Jiulongjiang River on the mainland of Xiamen prefecture level city. The bay has 5 km of coastline with shallow water of 10 metres depth. Haicang district is physically situated on the mainland to the west of Xiamen Island. The eastern district of the Zone is separated from Xiamen Island by an 870 metre stretch of water linked by the Haicang Bridge.

CIFIT started out as the Fujian Fair for International Investment & Trade . It was held for the ten years between 1987 and 1996. Then came the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the People's Republic of China who saw the opportunity to expand this trade show to include marketing the rest of China for foreign direct investment. Consequently the FFIIT was promoted officially to CIFIT in January 1997.
